Like all the current generation of ereaders it uses a brilliant technology called eInk This is black on white and is not backlit, which means that − like a book but unlike a laptop − you can read it in sunlight, though not in the dark. how do you get them? The manual is silent. You can clearly do a lot more on the Iliad than simply read books, but you’d have to be a technical whiz to work out what. At the moment the Iliad feels like a prototype that needs a lot more development. Whether it gets it depends on how popular e-readers become in the future − and currently the signs are not hopeful. My names Robert Crane and Im a New York City Policeman Id been a skeptic on most things paranormal until a few years ago I went on a camping trip out West in the wilderness with some policemen pals. Our group also had a local man to guide us We hiked to a remote area of Montana and set up camp. One afternoon we decided to hike to a nearby deserted mine to have a look around. The local man knew the area well and took us along an abandoned road. We were all walking along the road when we noticed a figure coming towards us from the direction of an old mine area. We could see that this person was an older man carrying a sack over his shoulder. As he grew closer we could see that he was dressed in old style overalls, a worn out old hat with a long unkempt gray beard and had the strangest bright green eyes we had ever seen. He looked as if he just stepped out of a hundred-year-old photo album. We stood

and looked at him as he walked by. The old man simply tipped his dirty old hat and muttered “Good day to you boys” and kept on walking. I turned toward the local man and asked "So, does that old timer live out here alone?" He looked at each of us and said, "Well boys, you just got your first look at old Joe the ghost of the mine road." We all laughed and continued to do so until we realized he was serious. One by one we stopped laughing "Seriously guys, that was ole Joe", repeated our guide. The local guide then went on telling us that the old miner had been walking that road for about one hundred years greeting all he passed with the same tip of the hat. A few days later our camping trip ended and we returned home to our normal New York life and routines. We talked about the ghost of old Joe for many years after And then I was at work last night. We had a routine call and I was standing near an alley between two buildings and decided to walk down it

and take a look around. It was a bad idea and I should have known better, to wander off without telling my partner. I was walking along the alley when all of a sudden out of nowhere this guy rushed me. I knew he wanted my weapon and cash and also knew he was going to try to stab me. I pushed him off and he came at me again. And then, all of a sudden, a very strange thing happened: out of absolutely thin air appeared this old homeless guy pushing a shopping cart. He pushed the cart between us mumbling something as he walked along. It shocked my attacker as much as it did me By the time the old man passed between us I was able to control the situation and handcuff the guy. I looked at the old man and he looked right at me, not more than two feet away from my face. I am telling you this is true that that old man was the same old man I had seen years ago on that mining road. I swear it was old Joe I know this sounds crazy but I will never forget that old mans face, or his bright green

Such was the plight of Dave Carroll, a Canadian musician who said United Airlines baggage handlers broke his favorite guitar as he changed planes at Chicago OHare International Airport. The actual guitar smashing happened in March 2008 As he and his band, Sons of Maxwell, who were about to leave for a week-long tour in the US, sat on the plane, another passenger saw the

baggage handlers tossing and throwing guitars to one another and shouted, "My God, theyre throwing guitars out there!" He says he immediately told three employees at OHare, who didn’t deny the experience occurred, but refused to help. On arrival in Nebraska Carroll found that his $3,500 Taylor acoustic guitar was damaged. He made a complaint immediately, but customer service employees would do nothing to compensate him for his loss. He then tried to reason with United for 9 months to get them to pay the $1,200 repair cost - but he got the run-around, and ultimately they wouldnt. So, Carroll did what he does best He wrote a song about it, called "United Breaks Guitars." The YouTube video Carroll made to go along with the song may be the biggest hit of his career, and its really worth a watch. He actually promised to make two more songs and videos about his battle with United, and if theyre half as fun as the first one, we cant wait. The YouTube complaint video

appears to work in other ways, too. After the first "United Breaks Guitars" hit the big time on YouTube this week – more than 4 million people watched the video during the first two weeks –, the Chicago-based airline quickly responded: a managing director of customer service called Carroll and apologized, going so far as to ask if United could use the video internally to train its people. This is not surprising, because within four days of the song going online, United Airlines stock price plunged by 10 per cent, costing shareholders $180 million.
