ID: hamrittha.shankar@ @gmail.com Abstractt: In the pressent world off automotivee sector auto--gear transm mission is one of the major growth and innoovation to thee two-wheelerr geared vehiicles. This giv ves a platform m to throw ligght on semi-a automatic gear tran nsmission, which can be a kit fit on th he bike at any y stage i.e beefore or afterr sales of bik ke. In this paper, gear-shifting g m mechanisms are designed d to make thee shifting proocess smootheer and accurrate. This design makes m the gearshift to avvoids jerk and gear clashes while shiffting and aim m to increasee the fuel efficiency by shiftingg at right insstant of engiine RPM. Heence, solenoids are used to

shift the gears by ng and reeneergizing throu ugh 12V exissting battery in the vehiclle. Predomin nant increase by 13 to energizin 18% of fuel f efficiencyy is observed d by on-board ding gearshiftt assist mechanism in the vehicle. Thiss is also a motivatiion factor forr differently able a people who w can use this t for gear shifting by hand not to deepend on foot for shifting. s Keyword ds: Solenoid: Current carryying coils. INTRODUCTION The papeer is an invesstigation and development d of an electron nic assist geaar-shift for thee two wheelerrs. In this regard, effort e is made to design andd develop a simple s solenoiid based gearr-shift assist fo for geared bik kes. It was also an innitiation to heelp the differeently able to riide bikes effo ortlessly and have h controls aat fingers. Geear-shift at the right rpm of enginne would reducce the fuel coonsumption an nd increase thee fuel efficienncy. Study is also a made g position indicator i also plays a vital role r in increasing

the fuel effficiency. that the gear PROCESS FLOW, FAB BRICATION N AND INSTA ALLATION Electrificcation Section The T world is progressing p toowards the eleectrification an nd innovationn to optimize vvehicle perforrmance by reducing fuel consumpption and alsoo by reducing CO2 emission n. This paper is the step toowards the new wer world and suppporting societty with lesserr effort mechhanism in the vehicles. In this regard, electrical swiitches are providedd for shifting the gear thrrough solenoiid and relay are used to manage the flow of currrent work effectivelly [1]. Fig.1 shoows the princiiple of process flow circuit working for this electronicc assist for geear shifting meechanism Limit sw witch and pushh switch are ussed to ensure the t circuit is closed c and thee process is a ffool proof sysstem in all the condiitions [2]. Thhese switches allows the soolenoids to operate at the riight moment only after thee clutch is applied completely, c heence this is a check point for f the

gear-sh hift point and this would opptimize the prrocess and increase the t fuel efficiency of the veehicle [3]. Figure 1. Current C flow for ellectrification DOI: 10.21817/ijet/2019/v11i4/191104018 Vol 11 No 4 Aug-Sep 2019 818 ISSN (Print) : 2319-8613 ISSN (Online) : 0975-4024 Hamritha S / International Journal of Engineering and Technology (IJET) Mechaniical Design: It is important that wiithout many changes c in thhe gear lever solenoid s to bee mounted onn the vehicle. Hence, a fr with Aluminum A platte was fabriccated for mou unting solenooid on the legg support of the bike. simple frame Thereforee, two solenoiids are used foor the arrangeement in which h one of them m will be for doown shift and other one for up shhift of gears [44]. This fixtuure consists of o two parts naamely, primarry and secondary plates as shown s in the Fig: 2. Primarry plate is the one which w is in thhe main platee which suppoorts secondary y plates on eiither side. Thhis should hav ve greater

strength to balance thee assembly off solenoids annd secondary plate. The secondary platees are also im mportant to nd these platees are fastenedd to primary plate. p This constrainnt the movemeent of solenoiid in horizontaal direction an allows thhe mechanism to adjust the height h of the armature a of th he solenoid annd the distancee from center [5]. Figure 2. Gear lever plate for mo ounting solenoid Installattion: Installatioon is an impoortant phase of a project, att most, care was w taken and components w were installed d on to the bike. In this t process, clutch c input iss considered as a the primary y input and puush buttons arre secondary inputs for the circuuits to trigger the solenoid [6]. These arrrangements iss made to enssure that the ggearshift woulld happen only afteer clutch is appplied complettely. It was observed o that gearshift happpening at hallf clutch was damaging the gearbbox and inefficcient in terms of fuel econoomy [7] [8]. Figuree 3. Clutch and so

olenoid installatioon DOI: 10.21817/ijet/2019/v11i4/191104018 Vol 11 No 4 Aug-Sep 2019 819 ISSN (Print) : 2319-8613 ISSN (Online) : 0975-4024 Hamritha S / International Journal of Engineering and Technology (IJET) WORKING G Considerring safety, rigght time for shhifting the geaar and improv ve the fuel ecoonomy of the vvehicle a simp ple circuit was deveeloped such that, t the clutcch is provideed with a lim mit switch(CSW W) and also followed by two push switch(SW W1,SW2) forr shifting the gears g to eitherr the higher geear or lower gear g number. T This clutch lim mit switch ensured that t as safety measure durinng the gear-shhift100% clutcch was applied and only aft fter that it wou uld trigger the solennoid for shiftinng the gear [9]] [10]. Hence, as the CSW is closed the siggnals are passeed to ensure th hat SW1 is alllowed to operaate and soleno oid (S1) is triggeredd. By this, the gear would have h shifted frrom neutral po osition to 1st gear g number. This ensures

that gears are not shhifted withouut application of clutch. Sim milarly, after attaining a certaain pickup it iis necessary to o shift the gear at thhe right momeent, taco meterr represents thhat required RPM R is achievved and allowss the for next gear g shift. Hence, during d the nexxt shift, it agaain checks forr the input frrom CSW andd ensures SW W2 can be opeerated and when thee check point is crossed andd solenoid (S22) is allowed to operate annd change the gear to the neext higher number. These kinds of o checkpointss continue on both b the direcctions as basedd on vehicle sppeed. Figuure 4 Electrical Circuit RESULT TS AND DISC CUSSION The resuults are tabulatted for discusssion, based on o the tests co onducted in order o to checkk the perform mance with respect too fuel econom my and to enssure the life of the compon nents on three different dayys of continuo ous ride in city conddition. It was ensured that fuel f consumpttion was exacctly 1lt for eveery ride on eaach day.

Simillarly, base vehicle was w also testedd before installlation of the electronic asssist for gear shhifting and tabbulated for comparison. Results were w tabulatedd for the mileaage, based on the t fixed conssumption of fuuel. As mentiioned above, a significant inncrease in milleage was obsserved in all thhe three days ride. On the first f day it was arouund 13% increease, with this test was conttinued to checck the repeatabbility and wass observed aro ound 18% on the seecond day. Ass there was noo consistency on the gain on o mileage, it was necessaryy to check thee same on the thirdd day and it was observedd that 18% im mprovement was recordedd. As there w was consisten ncy in the percentagge gain, the coomponents weere removed and a investigateed for any dam mage or failure prediction. Figure 5.
