Communication and Technology Name Partium Christian University 3rd year Management 2011 Introduction Not only in the 21st but already in the 20th century has become a very difficult activity. The key factor is that every successful business needs to have the best communication equipment on the market. Technology affects almost every aspect of our lives. Our personal life changed very much, but as much the business world has revolutionized too, almost beyond recognition in the past few decades. Technology has changed the face and the pace of business I think everybody knows Bill Gates, the American business magnate, the chairman of Microsoft. He recognized that “Paper is no longer a big part of my day I get 90% of my news online, and when I go to a meeting and want to jot things down, I bring my Tablet PC. It's fully synchronized with my office machine so I have all the files I need.” Communication and Technology Communication is a two-way process of reaching mutual

understanding, in which participants not only exchange information but also create and share meaning. So this process of sending and receiving messages is only effective when the message is understood and when it stimulates action or encourages the receiver to think in new ways. Technology is the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of goods and services, and in the organization of human activities. It invaded our life, we only have just to look around and see how we are wired. Thanks to the internet, virtually anything what we desire can be delivered to our door in just few days. If we want to have a successful business, we have to combine the two elements and both communication and technology efficiently. When we are thinking about communication, we have to choose the way how we want to communicate. Through business communication we can anticipate problems, make decisions, coordinate work flow, supervise others, develop relationships, and

promote products and services. Without effective communication, people - 1- misunderstand each other and misinterpret information. Ideas misfire or fail to gain attention, and people and companies flounder. In business world the advance of technology is a problem, but with effective communication we can handle its challenges, the need to manage vast amounts of information, the growth of globalization and workforce diversity, and the increasing use of teams in the workplace. The other part of communication near the message is the channel. Information is the lifeblood of an organization. To effectively convey information, communication is necessary, and to communicate a channel is necessary too. Communication is conveyed in several forms, including verbal and written methods. It is important that the method used to convey the information must be understandable by its intended recipient. Otherwise the communication is wasted and a business could suffer. Viewing our purposes, we can

choose from more communication methods. The method chosen depends very much of the type of business communication, what are two: internal and external communication. There is a phrase what is very useful for us: the eyes are the mirror of the soul. Human creatures are very different and difficult, we are very complex, but sensible. Therefore the best way of business communication is to discuss face-to-face. Body language is very important for us, because it accentuates and helps to demonstrate what we are verbally expressing. The next important benefit is the tone of voice, wherewith we can express ourselves orally much better, than in a written material, what’s tone cane be misunderstood. We can try the online face-toface interaction, when the business contact is geographically apart from us, but it is lesser effective. The next best way of business communication is telephoning. Through this method we can use again the advantages of tone and pith of our voice, to convey feelings and

emotions. If - 2- we opt to try this method, we have the advantage of fast response, because we receive a reply straight away, whereas with written communication we often have to wait for a response. Emails and text messages have become very common in our days. In a decade the usage of internet grew 353,1% in Europe. According to the latest researches, at 31st March 2011 where 476,213,935 of Internet users. Globally from 2000 the growth is 480,4% 1 These statistics can encourage us two use this method, especially when we’re in a hurry, and want a permanent record. But the disadvantage of text conversations is that the feedback is not immediate, and our message can be misread too. However newspapers aren’t so popular in our days, because of Internet, in 2007 there were 6580 daily newspapers in the world selling 395 million copies a day 2. It starts to become a little outworn, but useful and cheap too. Like the other written methods, so this is a little bit slow, we have to wait

for response. Television and radio are more popular because of their interactivity. Television has the significant advantage of sending pictures, what can influence our decisions in a high degree. Almost in every house exists at least one. But radio is more impersonal, through this we can convey our ideas using our voice, what is more boring. Conclusions The 21st Century provides us a very big variety of communication methods, we only have to choose the right one and to exercise it effectively. When we decide, have to scan our entire organization, our future plans, our operation, and then to choose. But the advancing of technology is dangerous too, many companies go bankrupt, because they can’t communicate effectively, and can’t exercise the most important element of business success. So we can’t use a premade template, our job is to create the best communication method, what fits our company the best. 1 Internet Usage and World Population Statistics, March 31, 2011. 2
